Wu appeared on a local podcast recently to answer comments from the Trump administration, which had labeled her as "far-left." President Trump had warned that he would contact the head of FIFA if Boston did not "address its issues." Much of it is secured by agreement so that no single person, even the president, can reverse it. She continued, "We live in a time where for drama, for control, to test limits ... ongoing threats ... are issued at individuals and communities who stand their ground and comply or be obedient to a divisive plan." She further stated, "We will keep being ourselves, and that means, unfortunately, we are going to be in a conversation that is challenging what Boston stands for." Wu concluded by stressing her commitment for the city, declaring, "Fully committed for our city." Trump's Comments and FIFA's Role Recently, Infantino was photographed with President Trump at the international summit in Egypt. Infantino has also visited the Oval Office and presented World Cup tournament and Club World Cup trophies to the president as presents. On Tuesday, President Trump was questioned on recent disturbances in South Boston that included a police vehicle being burned. Trump responded, "If somebody is doing a bad job, and if I feel there's danger, I would call Gianni – the president of the organization, who's great." He continued, "I would say: 'We should relocate the games' and they would comply. He wouldn't love to do it. But he would do it without hesitation." Trump also specifically targeted Wu, stating, "Boston's mayor is ineffective ... she's radical left, and they're dominating parts of Boston. That's a pretty big statement, right?" Previous Threats and 2026 World Cup Information President Trump has previously suggested that he would have the same conversation with Infantino about relocating matches from Seattle and San Francisco, which are among the 16 host cities across the continent. The US is joint hosts the 2026 tournament with Mexico and Canada. The 48-team event is scheduled to be held from 11 June to 19 July next summer.
