The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements. The incident occurred just outside the Bullring shopping centre Friday night The suspect, 21, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, charged over the violent incident. Originally charged of attempted murder but following the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder. Law Enforcement Actions Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives. Authorities confirmed their assessment indicated the incident constituted "unprovoked" Detectives are appealing for witnesses who might have observed the accused, identified as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack. Attack Site Details The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station. Police said they classified it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating efforts continue to determine why it happened. Witness Accounts Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her shift around 10 PM on Friday. She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00. "A lot of co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our security is compromised essentially, here in the city centre." Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came the city fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident. "It causes concern about my partner," he stated. "She lacks transportation and works at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
