Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
